Man, that's a lot of gifts.
I'm one of those people who likes to go for "personal" over "pricey" when giving gifts. Sure, people like nice jewelry and fine housewares, but I prefer the gifts that reference an inside joke or really show that you know that person and knew that they would totally love Gift X when you saw it in the store. For that reason, I've come to rely on Etsy.com for a lot of my gift giving. I think of something that I love about a person or some moment that we've shared together and then I find a gift that references that thing in some way. For example, I bought a journal recently for a friend and was able to find one that was made out of a repurposed aquarium map that also happened to be a place we visited together when we were in high school. It's a little touch, but she liked it all the more because I put that thought into it.
That's why I LOVE repurposed jewelry and one of the best sellers that I've found on Etsy is Rockshanks, who makes pieces that are beautiful, but also really fun and unexpected. (I think my absolute favorite are the pieces she makes from the Fisher Price people.) She's made jewelry out of Scrabble Tiles, Monopoly Pieces, Guitar Picks, Bottle Caps, Watches, Lego Pieces, Buttons, Typewriter Keys, Costume Jewelry, Charms and Charm Bracelets, etc. It's so easy to look through her shop and trigger a happy memory...I totally recommend it.
And, because I love her stuff so much, Rockshanks has agreed to donate one of her special Disney pieces to this week's giveaway and I am THRILLED! I think this would be perfect either for a Disney lover or as a gift for someone who shares a special memory of a vacation to the parks. (Perhaps a best friend or a big sister who also happens to be a Maid of Honor?) It's a necklace made with two repurposed pieces: a Disney pendant and an Epcot pewter souvenier spoon. How awesome is that?

Giveaway!
To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post and tell me what little trinket or toy you'd love to have on a necklace. Anything goes here...cracker jack toys, Oscar Mayer Weenie whistles...shoot for the moon on this one! Just make sure to put something because people who don't play don't get counted as entries. The winner will be announced on Saturday...
And don't forget to check out Rockshanks' store, especially if you're partial to Lego people!
UPDATE: We have a winner!

I've actually made repurposed necklaces before, and my favorite one was four guitar picks on a ball bearing chain. Each pick was given to me by a guitarist I met.
An Ooze canister from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, one that came with the transforming action figures would've been perfect size for a necklace trinket.
mmmmmm lets see... the pieces shown make me think of the tinkerbell pressed pennies i have but thats the disney geek speaking.... and my prized chewbacca action figure from the original star wars action figure sets is probably a weeeeee bit too large... what i do have that would be cool are just a bunch off odds and ends, earrings missing their mate, broken rhinestone bracelets, hat belonged to either of my grandmothers circa 1950/60s? big weird chunky things that i cant really use, but are too shiny and sparkly to toss!

I am in LOVE with the necklace you featured! Just awesome!
I think something I would like to see would have to involve my coin collection. I have loads of pressed pennies and coins from all over the world. To make it into something like a necklace or bracelet would be sweet.
Oooh lovely necklace, I think I would go with different colored plastic bottles from Playmobil or Barbie playsets, overall blue or green shades. They sometimes have beautiful transparent ones, too cute!
Tough one! I always love seeing this, but have such a problem finding things that I would use!
I think I would use the tags from my old dog's collars - maybe some of the accents on them - it would be a great memory!
That's an awesome necklace! We are trying to be as green as possible with our wedding and Rockshanks would fit right in. I'd love to have a mini-figure of Teddy Roosevelt, one of the Washington Nationals' (baseball) racing presidents mascots. My fiance loves baseball, but the mascots are what keep me entertained! Thanks for hosting a great giveaway!
This is adorable, I think id put a Mickey Mouse or a little trinket to represent my proposal. My fiance proposed to me on the Disney Wonder on pirate night in front of Mickey Mouse, and he put my ring inside a beautiful trinket, so i think that would be a great memory to put that in the necklace.
My hubby and I gave away homebrewed beer as our wedding favors at our Disney wedding. Since we love beer (obviously), it would be cool to have a necklace that featured the corks we used on our Belgian beer bottles we gave our guests.
I love the necklace you showed - it's so beautiful!
If I were to make a necklace out of little trinkets, it would have to be made out of tiny Barbie shoes, just as a throwback to my girlhood. =)
I think it would be wonderful to make a necklace using the colored pegs from the LiteBrite game! You'd have multiple colors like beads. It would also fun if there was a way you could light them up at night!!
I LOVE that necklace. I'm a huge fan of old odds and ends being made into necklaces. I'd like to find some my little pony or cherry merry muffin accessories that I have lying around my parents house and use them as a necklace.
For me it would be legos and hot wheels. Not the most femimine of trinkets- but they remind me of my son when he was younger.

i would make a necklace out of a quarter i found a while back that has a hole in it. i keep it on my key chain now but it would be cool to have it on a necklace.
For me, it would be toy accessories. The ones you always lose. A shoe and baseball bat for sure.
But I love that necklace. If I should happen to win (which I never do) I would wear that at my wedding. I'm a huge Epcot Center fan and that would be one of my Disney touches.
Oh my goodness...I'd love one that had little cutout discs of the inside of the Care Bears' belly badges. Like, instead of a bunch of charms of the care bears themselves, it'd just be Grumpy Bear's cloud, Good Luck Bear's clover, Funshine Bear's sunshine... You get the picture. :)
a penny pressed in yellowstone.
I would love to have a mini ice skate on a necklace!
Thank you for the giveaway :)

I would choose a wind-up seal with only one fin.
When I was a little girl, my grandma kept a collection of plastic toys in a big tin box. My sister and I would play with these toys for hours and sometimes (accidentally) leave them on shelves, in the couch, or any little nook and cranny at my grandparents' apartment. Yet there was one that we both fought over, and that was the wind-up seal with just one fin. (In years past, my older brothers had somehow caused this seal to lose one of its fins.) My sister and I loved that it could be wound up and swim in the bathtub. An exciting concept for 4 year-old girls! Not just that though, my grandpa used to do this hilarious impression of a seal that could make any kid laugh. He has since passed away, so this particular toy brings back fond memories of my Papa. His impression has been passed on, as now my older brothers both do it for their kids, and I shall do it for mine!...when I have kids. :)
I had a chemistry themed Barbie and I loved the little minature beakers and flasks. I'm a chemist now, so it would be so fitting lol
My hubby and I were married in 05 at Disneyland. I would love to have the trinket of the carriage or the castle since I got married at Disney. My engagement was at Disneyworld after the fireworks.

I love the idea of a board game piece.. great necklace.
I have my mom's wedding ring that I inherited when she passed away and oftentimes I will wear that on a chain as a necklace because I love sentimental pieces. My mom and Dad were married 34 years before she passed away and I hope my hubby and I are married as long and are as happy as they were!!
The necklace is beautiful and unique. Thanks for the chance.

I used to work at Disney World, for a couple of years when I was young. This necklace brings back memories. What would I turn into a necklace? Anything Star Wars! Of course, I would never drill holes in my own toys! My husband once took a tiny little Han Solo in Carbonite that came with one of the Slave One ships. I guess he found it at a flea market or something, and he put a pin back on it. I have worn that as a necklace, too.
I'd love a necklace with a pug on it because we have a pug and pugs are the sweetest things.
So cute, I would love to add Mickey to it!
