Inspiration: Disneymooner Outfit of the Day

3 comments
My idea of the perfect Disneymooner outfit for a sunny Florida day in the parks includes a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. But, since I'm a picky bride, I'm a little more particular than that. I want shorts that I can get dirty without anyone noticing...preferably with pockets that button so I can drop my cell phone in without worrying about it slipping out. I'd want a t-shirt that's Disney, preferably in a bright color so that I don't get lost in the bright backgrounds of our keepsake photos. Of course, I'd probably snag some bright socks, too, since I like neutral colored sneakers. The shoes are pretty important, since I'm a park-opening to park-closing type of tourist, so if I could get something cute AND orthopedic, that would be perfect.

I probably wouldn't wear too much jewelry, other than my wedding ring, so I'd stick with something simple and classic Disney, like a Mickey Mouse or castle pendant. To make sure I didn't get a tan line from my necklace, I'd pack the spray-on sunscreen (that doesn't leave your hands sticky) in my park bag (which is cute but big enough to hold a poncho/umbrella, my camera, and some water bottles). Not wanting to miss the paraders or my dining reservations, I'd take my Mickey watch (waterproof for sure). Finally, I'd grab my giant sunglasses...a little trendy, but my kids will think they're pretty funny when they browse through the photos in our wedding album, just like I thought my mom's sunglasses were hi-lar-i-ous.

Grand Floridian - St. Augustine Ballrooms A, B, C, D

0 comments
The St. Augustine Ballrooms are the ballrooms most often used for receptions at The Grand Floridian. Floral and other decor can make a huge impact in these rooms, but even without much added to them, they have an elegant feel to them that is perfect for weddings.
  • The ballrooms hold between 50-60 wedding guests when two ballrooms are opened together (St. Augustine A/B, for example). When all four ballrooms are opened and combined, the space holds 140-220 wedding guests.

Vow Renewal Spotlight: Janet2K

Ceremony Location: Wedding Pavilion
Reception Location: The Great Movie Ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios
Photography: Disney Photographic Services

Today's vow renewal is coming to us from Janet2K's Flickr page. Usually I'm able to sleuth out what the bride and groom's real names are, but Janet2K has me stumped. Her vow renewal has gone down in Disney Wedding legend as one of the more spectacular events, however, so there's simply no way that I'm not going to share it. With you. Right now.

The most amazing thing about a reception at The Great Movie Ride? Having four separate themed receptions in one:

First, a vow renewal at the Wedding Pavilion...

...sealed with a handprint ceremony in front of the Chinese theater...

...and then a pre-reception in a pretty bad part of town...

Last Day to Vote for the Pre-2009 Disney Wedding Awards!!!

3 comments
You heard it here, folks! It's the last day to vote for the Pre-2009 Disney Wedding Awards and some of those categories are featuring some heated competition! The last contest saw a last surge that led to a surprise winner in a couple of categories and I bet that's going to happen again. I'm shutting the voting down at some point this evening so I can have the winners up on Friday. Keep voting and stay tuned!!!

In the meantime, I'm a little buried under all the behind-the-scenes work that needs to be done to knit this blog together. The links are going live slowly but surely and hopefully it will all happen pretty fast. At the moment, I'm kind of kicking myself for breaking down everything into little categories, but then I remember how I was just dying for a blog like this when I was planning and I can only hope that there's another Type A out there who wants to see carpet samples and lighting suggestions for every single reception location on property. Oh well, it's the Type As that make the world go 'round I guess.

I was going to do a real wedding spotlight today, but to be honest I just didn't have it in me to pick one. So, we're going to do a real awesome cake spotlight today, since Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings just put out a post about the amazing groom's cakes they're able to come up with. We didn't have a groom's cake (heck, we didn't have a wedding cake), but I can tell you that if Kyle had seen this one before we got married, there definitely would have been a new cake in our budget:

See more groom's cakes here.

An Additional Prize and a Few Other Love Notes

2 comments
Love Note #1: Thank you to everyone who stopped by yesterday and left me feedback! I received so many helpful and thoughtful responses to the new changes on the blog and thanks to your suggestions the site is even better than it was when I relaunched it. I'm still tweaking a few things and trying to figure out how to fix a couple leftover bugs, but I definitely think you guys are pushing me in the right direction.

* * *

Love Note #2: Rather than dump a ton of content into the blog all at once, I'll be putting things up slowly and mixing in pure information (like stats on ceremony locations) with the usual spotlights and commentary. I'm afraid that if I do it all in one night, I'll completely swamp the large portion of you that are subscribed to me and if I do pure information for three weeks straight, this blog is going to end up looking like a book report on the functions of Disney weddings. So, if you're waiting anxiously for a certain article, I promise it's coming and if you hang on I'll get to it soon. Or, better yet, send me an email and I'll bump that topic to the top of to-do list.

* * *

Love Note #3: From my blog statistics, it looks like a lot of you were trying to use the links on the menu today. Most of them don't go anywhere, but I've fixed it so that you'll at least go to a page that says "Hi, I haven't done that yet" rather than being shot out into unfamiliar cyberspace. I also added some content on the links that were clicked on the most, so you can now use the menu to see the About page (so weird to write one of those!), the Directory of Real Wedding Spotlights, the Top 25 Posts from Our Wedding Planning, and Our Wedding Trip Report.

* * *

I actually went through every post on our trip report and linked them together so you can flow easily from one story into the next. I also fixed all the bugs and layout problems in both the Trip Report and the Real Wedding Spotlights (formerly known as Disney Bride Spotlights) so they're looking a little cleaner. It was great to go through that content, because there are a TON of weddings that I thought I had spotlighted but they aren't on my list. You can bet I'll be sharing some special events in the weeks to come!

And, speaking of special events, it's time to announce the last prize for The Pre-2009 Disney Wedding Awards, which will be awarded to the write-in category, Best Disney Character Photo. The winner of that category will win a 10x10 metallic print from Root Photography of this amazing image:

Isn't it just lovely?! Sometimes I can't believe what those two can do with their cameras. It's the perfect prize for this category, too, because it stirs up all those warm fuzzy Disney love feelings. Thank you, Nathan and Jensey!!!

You still have today and tomorrow to vote. Some of the categories are really close...within ten votes even, so get on those tweets and Facebook statuses to pull in those voters!

Updates on the Renovation

9 comments

As you can see, I've started changing the blog up a bit. I'm really excited about the new functionality of the site and I think it's going to be just lovely when I'm all finished with it. At the moment, though, it's more aesthetically pleasing than anything else. The menu up top is just decorative right now. I haven't had time to put all the links in. In fact, a lot of the content that the menu will link to doesn't even exist yet, so I'm prematurely begging the pardon of my RSS and email subscriber because I'll probably be cranking out 4-6 post a day for a little while as I attempt to get everything organized.

Sidenote - The poll for redoing the 2009 DWAs didn't fit in with the new look, so I took it down. The vote not to redo is winning by a landslide, so I probably won't even put it back up unless somewhere out there troops are being rallied to vote in favor of a second contest. If you have any complaints, send me an email...

Anything you wish I had on the site but you aren't seeing? Leave a comment!

P.S. Don't forget to vote for the pre-2009 Disney Wedding Awards. You only have a couple more days to get those votes in! I'll be announcing the extra prize very, very soon...

R-E-S-P-E-C-T: In Defense of the Disney Bride

9 comments
I had the amazing opportunity to attend a design blogger conference last weekend. For a day and a half, I was able to rub elbows with bloggers that have become icons in the world of design, many of whom have earned a permanent place in my Google Reader. We listened to panels and had the opportunity to socialize and meet IRL (In Real Life), which just made my month. I really love blogging and I really, really love bloggers, so this event simply could not have been any better.

Well, sort of.

Photographer Spotlight on David and Vicki Arndt

0 comments
Today's spotlight is another wedding coming to us from Shades of Green. I chose it because these photographers, David and Vicki Arndt, are photographers that I've seen more and more Disney brides use. I think they do beautiful work, but unfortunately they don't have a blog. In my opinion, it's getting really hard to get a sense of someone if they aren't using social media, and although the Arndts have a Facebook page, I really hope they get a blog soon so I can see a steady stream of working coming from them and get a sense of who they are...
