College Program Roll Call

Just curious...how many of you met your significant others while you were working on the Disney College Program? Leave a comment with a bit of your story, like this:

Kyle and I met while we were on the college program in Fall 2002. I worked at All-Star Music and he worked at Pleasure Island. We didn't start dating while we were there, but we kept in touch after the program and the rest is history! Our first trip back together was in January 2005.

Video of the Locations for the Memories Collection

A lot of you have had questions about the new Memories Collection offered by Disney Fairy Tale Weddings. Since many of the questions had to do with the locations available, I took video of the three locations while I was in Orlando. The locations are Conch Key Marina at the Grand Floridian, Narcoosee's Landing, and Luau Beach at the Polynesian Resort. You'll have to keep in mind that none of the locations are set for ceremonies in the video, although the footage probably gives you a pretty realistic sample of what the noise level might be if you booked one of these locations.

Disney Touches from At-Home Weddings

One of the things that I really like about browsing the blogs of Orange County photographers (be they in Florida or California) is that often I'll come across a wedding that wasn't on Disney property, but had just a detail or two that added a little pixie dust. So, if you're planning an at-home celebration, here are some images from off property weddings covered by photographer Jason Angelini that incorporated just a dash of mouse magic:

DIY Wedding Decorations Inspired by Cinderella's Pumpkin Coach

'Tis the season for pumpkin crafts, which means it's also the season for decor inspiration if your wedding happens to have a Cinderella theme to it. Cinderella's pumpkin coach is one of the most famous fairytale icons around and your guests will pick up your theme right away if they see a pumpkins (and a little pixie dust) decorating your event.

Fall weddings have the benefit of using real pumpkins, but if you're having a wedding at some other point in the year (or you don't want to handle the logistics of shipping real pumpkins to your destination celebration), look for those "90% off all Halloween decorations" signs that pop up around the 5th of November. They make fake, foam pumpkins in all shapes and sizes and the good news is that those little babies are easier to work with than real pumpkins, they last forever, and they maintain their shape very well during shipment.

Here are a few pumpkin crafts to get you inspired:

What is a Disney Wedding?

A Disney wedding is a wedding celebration that somehow incorporates the magic of Disney. Although this might mean a fairytale-themed event set at the foot of Cinderella's castle, it's more often a wedding that incorporates a handful of special Disney touches into an otherwise fairly traditional event. Many Disney weddings incorporate Disney characters or stories into the big day, while others are simply beautiful events set in one of the many wedding venues available on Disney property.

A Disney wedding can take many different forms. For example, a Disney wedding can be:

Fall is a Good Time for Change, Don't You Think?

Photo by David and Vicki Arndt Photography

I'm working on my giant list of good ideas for the blog today. That includes a big fat site redesign launching tomorrow, which is exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Don't worry...it's not actually a major change. More of a streamlining of good things and a shedding of clutter.

I'm also trying to get through all of the email that built up while I was gone, which is a slow process. You might think that's a little nuts, since it's been nearly a week, but you have to remember that I get 60-70 emails a day from blog readers. When you add that to my regular-life email and my freelance-writing email and my you-just-won-lots-of-money email, it's a lot of email. I'm down to about 200 messages, but I'm still feeling a little flattened by it all.

So, with all that being said, and with yesterday's discovery that I had left my camera battery and charger at All-Star Music, I will not be posting any info from the trip today. I also probably won't be doing a spotlight, although it was nice to see so many new applications come in yesterday. Lots of contenders for those 2010 Disney Wedding Awards!!

In the meantime, here are a few thoughts and a little link love to keep you occupied:

I'm Updating the Disney Wedding Spotlights

I think it's safe to say that the real wedding spotlights are the best part of this blog. Since they get so much traffic and they really seem to help couples who are still planning their events, I'm constantly trying to make them better. So, in that spirit, I'm updating the way that the spotlights will be submitted. There's a new spotlight application and it includes a place to put information such as who did your hair and makeup, who did your floral, where you got your dress, and you your wedding coordinator was.

Hanging out with Randy Chapman and Misty Miotto

I'm back and I had so much fun!!

I'll do a mini-trip report as soon as I get myself organized. I actually have a ton of stuff to do on my to-do list because the trip was very inspiring and it made me realize what things I like about this site and what things aren't really working for me right now. I wish I could just open my brain and give you guys the crazy amount of ideas/inspiration/information that I can home with, but instead, you'll just have to bear with me and wait while I sort it out.

So in the meantime, we'll do a couple more spotlights while I get organized, but first I have to say thank you to...

Out of the Office

Magic Kingdom, 2002, when I was more tan and less pregnant

Dearest readers,

Well, my bags are packed and I'm flying to Florida tonight to spend a blissful handful of days running around on Disney property. Yay!

While I'm gone, new spotlights will show up on this site automatically, but I won't be moderating comments on them until I get back. So, if you're frustrated because you can't see your comments, you aren't the only one. I may have some online time while I'm down there, but no promises. In the meantime, enjoy the spotlights!

If you'd like to follow me on my mini-trip, I'll be sending photos from my cell phone to my husband's Disney blog, DIS PIX FIX. Otherwise, I'll be back next week with all the updates and info and awesomeness.

Have a great week!
Carly

Wow, this one is a long time coming! For the first time, we did a two-week giveaway instead of a one-week giveaway because life has been crazy crazy. So, the extra lucky winner of a $40 gift certificate to the Etsy shop Laserbird, who specializes in beautiful engraved item, is...

I think it would be fun to have polls about different issues Disney and other brides face....like the age old debate on when to send save the dates or is it really worth $XYZ to have characters at my reception?

Congratulations, Justine!! Send me an email or a Facebook message with your contact info and I'll hook you up with your prize!

There's no new giveaway starting this week because I won't be here to moderate the entries or announce the winner. I will, however, be spending that time shopping around for something to buy while I'm at Walt Disney World and give away when I get back. So, if there's something you'd really like to win (and it's less than $50), go ahead and leave me a comment on this post and I'll keep my eyes peeled for it...

An Engagement Session with Disney Characters

How's this for an idea? Christina and Aaron couldn't make it to Walt Disney World to take their engagement photos, so her sister, Melissa, used Photoshop to add in some Disney characters:

Does anyone know who that hedgehog is? He doesn't look familiar...

You Asked, I Answered

Many of you have suggested that I start answering more questions from readers. I am going to make it a point to do this, since it's such a popular idea, but up until now, I've only been answering questions from people who are having trouble planning their wedding. I'd say that makes up a good half of the questions that people send me. As for the other half, you guys want to know some really random stuff! On the off chance that these are the questions you want me to answer more often, I present this random Q&A session.

Is this blog your full-time job and how much do you make doing it?

For the Week

Can you guys even believe that it's October? September is one of my favorite months of the year, but I feel like I missed it this time around because it flew by! Now it's all about Halloween decorations and thinking about holiday gifts and counting down the days until 2011...
