Amber: The Dress Has Been Chosen!!

I went to visit my parents this weekend in hopes of trying on some wedding gowns! We set off early this morning for my first appointment at 10 am.

The first store I had never even heard of before, but had seen a fashion show done by them at a Bridal expo, and doubting I could afford the gorgeous gowns, I made an appointment anyways!

So we pull up to the store, and I just happen to notice the address of the dress shop in the shopping plaza, "Suite 111" (note that I am getting married on 11.11.11) So that's a good sign! So the boutique is absolutely beautiful! Very well kept, neat organized, and the staff was extremely helpful and very friendly! My consultant was actually one of the co-owners of the store! So we pulled a few gowns and I tried on several. One seemed to stick out for me the most- the first thing I noticed was the beautiful sparkles all over the dress- and she even dimmed the lights and it looked like I had lights underneath the dress! And the neckline is just so fitting and very flattering. So I decide this one is a top contender and one of my favorites, but I still had two more appointments to go to, so I could be absolutely sure I had exhausted all of my resources, and to confirm that this could very well be my dress! She did price out the dress for me and they were having a trunk show that day- so I would be able to get an addition discount if I ordered today. So we parted ways and we were off!

The next two were HUGE disappointments. Apparently I forgot to mention that MB has almost ZERO places to buy formal gowns, and also it is Prom season... so the stores were flooded with girls- and several associates asked me what HS I went to.. haha which can be flattering I suppose... But they were overcrowded, understaffed, and honestly I didn't see anything worthwhile to even try on.

So I was still dwelling on the dress- and decided to go try it on one more time to see if it could very possibly be "the one". So naturally... before I were to get sized and measured for a dress, we just had to stop to eat lunch, and I just had to eat a HUGE burger and fries!

So we get back to the original store, and we made a few additional pulls and the "could possibly be the one" dress. But no other dress seemed to compare to the way the other one felt, so I put it on again. Now I wasn't planning on a veil, and I still don't think I want one, but for some reason when she put that veil on, I choked up a little bit, and just smiled like a crazy person, and I knew this was my dress.

So.... here... is.... MY... dress.... AHHHHHH!!!

There are TONS of sparkles on this dress that you can't see on the picture! And it is gorgeous on and fits perfectly!! It is the right length- so I can wear flats, and it doesn't even need to be bustled!! It was also right on price point! And nothing underneath- as it has the skirt already built in!

So the last moment of the day was by far the most memorable- I had kept harassing my mom all day asking why she wasn't crying for any of the dresses I tried on, and how was I suppose to know it was the one if I had no tears from anyone! So I pointed out that she was getting teared up last night during the movie Jerry Maguire!!! So I was telling her, " Mom! You were getting teary-eyed for Jerry Maguire, but not even for your own daughter's wedding dresses!?!?" She just kept laughing and saying "You Complete Me." So after purchasing MY DRESS, we are leaving the store and walking out to the car, and I looked at my mom and she was teary-eyed and to the point of tears.. and I said, " OH my gosh you are crying now!?!? After we already left the store!?! Really?!" Haha.. and she just started laughing and said she didn't want to cry in public... lol... it was a good time!

So I found the dress I am going to marry my future husband in!!

Roundup: Real Disney Wedding Prices

Thanks to a great response yesterday from you lovely readers, I think this will be the first in a series of posts that feature real price estimates from past Disney weddings. One of the big questions that I get is "Can I afford a Disney wedding?", followed by "How did they have this wedding for only X when I was told I needed to pay Y?"

The costs of Disney weddings vary greatly by year, season, location, number of guests, etc. Take a look at these real Disney weddings and you might be surprised by the price tag attached to each:

Cassie + JB - $37,110.11
2010 ceremony event for 75 guests. Includes Beauty and the Beast gates, landscaping, floral, chivari chairs with cushions and sashes, custom aisle runner, jazz trio with baby grand piano, rose petal cannons, A/V pkg, 1 streetmosphere interaction, 7 characters, plated breakfast with mimosas, and 3 tier wedding cake. Does not include photography, video, hair/makeup, dress, travel, welcome party, or reception cruise.

Brandy + Brian - $33,000
2008 event with 65 guests. Includes ceremony at wedding pavilion, Cinderella's Carriage, a reception at the BoardWalk resort with Mickey and Minnie, and an Epcot Dessert Party.

A Recycled Post for Earth Day

I wish I was a "green" person, or greener at least, but I'm not. I'm the kind of person that woke up this morning, got online, went through her blog reader, and thought "why is everyone talking about saving the planet?" Oh, right. Earth Day. Um, Happy Earth Day!

I remembered Earth Day last year and dedicated a whole week to it, so in celebration of Earth Day and to cover up the fact that I spaced it out this year, I'm going to "recycle" some of last year's posts today...starting with this one:

Easy Green: DIY Centerpieces Using Recycled Glass Jars

from the Photojojo! blog

I am a major fan of photos and photo crafts, so I love these little glass-jars-turned-photo-frames. I'm picturing centerpieces using a combination of tea lights in up-turned glass jars and photos of the happy couple in down-turned glass jars. Most of the couples who get married on Disney property have lots of photos from trips to the parks or Disney trips taken with family when they were younger. How fun would it be to incorporate all of those memories into your special day?

For couples who don't have a ton of photos to share or aren't keen on seeing themselves that many times over on the reception tables, you could always use vintage Disney postcards, like the ones Kyle and I used for our RSVPs and then you could pop those into the jars. I think any sort of Disney-on-paper idea would work with these...

Amber: Choosing a Dress

A best friend of mine came into town just to visit me today and we had planned to go wedding dress shopping! The exciting thing was that we had made these plans last week, and it just so happens she got proposed to last week right after I had seen her, right before Christmas!!! So we were going to make our dress shopping adventure a 2 for 1 deal!!! Hahaha

So I had an appointment at a boutique but it ended up being a very small and cramped store with little selection, not enough help, and for a bride with a wayyyy too big budget.... so we bee-lined it to David's Bridal!

My consultant was there and was able to fit me in with no appointment, and I was able to try on some more dresses! Previously I had tried on a ruffled organza that I loved, and my friend managed to pull some dresses I didn't try on last time. I am now in love with 3 of them!!

This was the original one I had tried on with my parents! I still loved it, but I feel that if it is bustled, I will lose the look of the dress that I like...

This one truly made me feel like I stepped out of fairytale... perfect for a Disney wedding right? They had it in the Ivory and I actually preferred that look, it made it look vintage and beautiful.

This one was like 4 dresses in one! It had all the elements that I liked on previous dresses and it made me feel beautiful!

Ahhhh! So now I have so many choices, but I think I am getting closer!! Plus they are having a sale, so I am debating on the dresses now!

What does everyone else think?

How to Use Pinterest to Save Photos You Love

Note: this is not a sponsored post. I really do adore this site this much.

Pinterest.com = the best way to save photos you find on the Internet.

How to use it:

Pinterest allows you to pull and save photos from anywhere on the Internet while you're browsing and also lets you categorize them so you can find them easily later on. When you set up a Pinterest account, you can start making "boards". The boards are just collections or groups that help you keep things organized. Here's a look at my profile and boards:

I FOUND MY HEADPIECE!!!

I plan on wearing it with my hair back and in curls and little volume/wave/curls in the front, very vintage-y... but that's pretty much how the whole thing is working out.

I bought it on etsy and its from the 1930s! I'm so excited I found such a unique vintage piece and it was only $22!!

That frees up a lot of my accessories budget for shoes!! LOL

"Inside Disney Weddings" Interview with David Tutera

Couture Collection Gives Brides on a Budget Access to Tutera’s Expertise

Carson City, NV. (Apr. 7, 2011) — This week's episode of "Inside Disney Weddings" features an exclusive interview with celebrity wedding planner David Tutera on his Couture Collection of Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings.

Tutera gives "Inside Disney Weddings" details on the origin and future of the collection, which comprises four distinct wedding “looks” that offer magazine-worthy decor and Tutera’s personal touch at a fraction of the cost of a celebrity wedding.

"I knew that I had the expertise and the history of doing spectacular weddings for people who have money,” says Tutera. “Now the trick was to find a way to create and develop the ideas and concepts that could be executed for girls who don’t have very deep pockets. It’s about making every girl feel wonderful and not feeling that they can’t have something beautiful if they can’t afford it. My goal is to empower women to feel amazing no matter how they look, what they do, how much money they make. They should have a wonderful wedding, and Disney can definitely execute that for them on all levels.”

Hosts Scott Sheppard and Carrie Hayward also share a comprehensive overview of the Couture Collection, complete with details on how much they cost, what they require, and what the packages do—and don’t—include.

I so wish that I could tell you that I was sponsoring this contest and was just being generous and awesome, but alas I do not have the funds to send someone to Walt Disney World for a wedding or vow renewal. Guest Post: Carrie's Review of Rent The Runway

PassPorter’s Disney Weddings & Honeymoons
www.passporter.com/weddings.asp

As someone with a closet full of special-occasion gowns I’ve worn just once, I was excited to learn about Rent The Runway, a sort of Netflix for dresses. For $40–$350 plus shipping, they let you borrow anything from a cocktail dress to a bridesmaid gown for four or eight days. You schedule the dress to arrive a few days before you need it and ship it back in a prepaid mailer after your event. The site carries dresses from 95 different designers that retail for up to $3,500, and a search bar lets you narrow choices by factors like size, color, body type, length, neckline and occasion. Even better, you get the dress in two different sizes at no extra charge, and you can order a backup style in two sizes for just $25 more.

My first thought was that Rent The Runway would be the ideal solution for bridesmaids—no need to coordinate shopping trips, schedule fittings, or futilely attempt to find a gown that can be worn again, because no one has to keep it! The site would also be handy for mothers of the bride and groom, wedding guests, and brides who need outfits for wedding-related events like the rehearsal dinner.

When I decided to surprise my husband with an anniversary party at Tower of Terror, I had the perfect excuse to try Rent the Runway. I found a stunning dress to fit the party’s Old Hollywood theme, an $850 gold sequined Badgley Mischka evening gown that rents for $100. I also rented a $90 pair of earrings for $15.

I chose the sizes for my main and backup dresses based on what fits me at department and chain stores and the reviews posted for each dress on Rent the Runway's site. They also have a live chat feature where you can talk to someone about what size to order. I loved the fact that most of their floor-length gowns come in regular and long lengths—something you don’t find at the mall.

Two days before the event, while I was on the plane to Florida, I got an e-mail and a phone call that one of my backup dresses had not been returned by the previous renter, and I could choose any dress on the site to replace it, regardless of price. I was told to call Rent The Runway back by the end of the day or they would choose a backup for me. Fortunately, I was able to call when my plane landed and ended up choosing a third style of dress to try.

The day before our party, Bell Services delivered a giant box containing the dresses in individual plastic bags inside a Rent The Runway logo garment bag (to keep), along with a large self-sealing, stamped bubble mailer for each dress. The "fit kit" they included just had a small packet of Hollywood Fashion Tape and, inexplicably, a BiorĂ© Make-up Removing Towelette—I think these are kind of like Sephora samples and change all the time. The earrings came with an alcohol swab.

I had been scared that none of the dresses would fit and I’d be left in the lurch right before the party, so I’d brought a back-up dress. However, I found they all ran true to size and fit me as I had expected. There were just the usual minor issues you have with off-the-rack clothes when your figure is not model-perfect. If you’re worried about sizing, it definitely helps if you know how different styles fit your body—like that empire waistlines make you look short or that sheath dresses don't work with your hips.

The earrings looked OK and photographed well, but they were a little beat up. Also, I don't think they were really worth the $90 the site said they were, so I'm not sure the $15 rental fee was such a screaming deal.

The day after the event, I wrapped each dress in its plastic bag and crammed it into a bubble mailer, then dropped them all at the front desk of the hotel for mailing. It couldn’t have been easier! Now I’m looking forward to using the site again for my cousin’s upcoming wedding, and maybe even for Christmas parties later this year. If you need to try on a lot of different sizes or to have clothes altered to get a good fit, Rent The Runway may not be a good choice. But if you don’t have trouble estimating your size when ordering clothes online, I definitely recommend it.

Nerissa: Location Decision

After looking at a few locations at Disneyland and Disney World, all that was left for us to do was to make the big decision! It took us a couple weeks to go over our options and finally make our choice. We knew we wanted one of the locations at the Disneyland Resort but we were stuck on whether we preferred Parkview Terrace or the Rose Court Garden.

There were things we both liked and disliked about each place.  For example, we loved the view from Parkview Terrace but didn't like how all the hotel balconies are facing it.  We loved how private the Rose Court Garden felt but were nervous about the ongoing construction around it for the Disneyland Hotel renovations.  We went back to both of the locations a few times.  We tried standing in the spots where we'd be for the ceremony and tried sitting in the area our guests would sit.  We showed pictures of the locations to our families.
In the end, we finally decided on....

The Rose Court Garden!

There was just so much we loved about it.  The rose bushes and the gazebo are so pretty on their own that we would not really have to do much to dress it up.  We love spending time at the Disneyland Hotel area and we've walked near the location while weddings have been taking place and it really is a wonderful spot.
For the reception location we were torn between the Wisteria Room and the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion.  But once we picked the Rose Court Garden for the ceremony location, we decided we would use the Pavilion for our reception since it was closer to it.

We are really excited for the wedding!  After deciding on our locations we contacted Cynthia, the Disneyland Wedding specialist we had met with, and let her know our decision and the date.  After checking on the schedule she got back to us and let us know it was available and that we would be receiving our contract in the mail!  The first big decision for our wedding was complete!
