Cameras for Your Disney Honeymoon
Cameras are obviously a big "yes" when it comes to packing for your Disney honeymoon. Unfortunately, not all cameras are created equal and your choice in camera could mean the difference between an album of beautiful memories or a collection of blurry, overexposed snapshots. You may also pack the wrong kind of camera for the photographer that you are, taking either a camera that feels too "fancy" to use or a cheap camera that can't do what you want it to.
Here's a quick rundown of some of my picks for Disney vacation cameras:
I'm running a giveaway from Photojojo for many of the items I mentioned in this post. Today's the last day (I'm drawing a winner tonight), so if you want to enter, head over to Great Big Joy to toss your hat into the ring!
Here's a quick rundown of some of my picks for Disney vacation cameras:
- The super-awesome-professional camera: When it comes to the fancy cameras, I'm a Canon girl. There are a lot of other digital SLR cameras out there that will take fantastic photos, but Canons have always held up well when traveling. Plus, the popularity of the Canon EOS Rebel means that it's constantly going on sale, especially around the holidays. Also, this is a good camera if you don't want a lot of overwhelming bells and whistles. There's a lot you can do with it, but if you want to leave it on just one setting you'll still get great images.
- The point-and-shoot-that-can-take-a-beating camera: The Canon PowerShot D10 is a waterproof camera that is shockproof for up to 4 feet. I bought this one for my little brother because he's hard on everything and it's survived the last couple of years in his clumsy hands. Compared to other point-and-shoot cameras, this one isn't as great in low-light situations but if you know you're hard on cameras it will definitely do the trick and live to tell the tale.
- The what-the-crap-am-I-doing camera: If you're really clueless but you still want great photos, I'd go with the Panasonic DMC-FH25K. It comes with a ton of presets (like "fireworks" or "portrait: close up") but it will also do well if you just leave it on one setting. I carry this camera even when I have my larger camera on me because this one takes high-quality videos and it's small enough to be easily accessible.
- The hey-we're-in-the-pool camera: I don't carry a waterproof camera as my go-to point-and-shoot because a lot of the cameras that are waterproof don't create the same sharp images that I want. That being said, I do love those swimming snapshots. Photojojo carries an inexpensive waterproof digital camera that gets the job done. The picture quality isn't very sharp, but if you aren't in the pool too often I'd get this camera and save your pennies for souvenirs.
- The my-camera-makes-phone-calls camera: If you've got a camera phone and you rarely use anything else, it might not even be worth it for you to take a separate camera. The reality is that if you aren't going to pull it out and use it, it's just one more thing weighing you down around the parks. There are also a ton of things you can add to your camera phone to make it a little more impressive. Photojojo carries a bunch of photo lenses that snap on to your camera magnetically and barely take up any room. I did a run down of them in this post if you're curious.

Roundup: DIY Projects from Real Disney Weddings
There are three design reasons to tackle do-it-yourself projects for your wedding:
Now, there are lots of reasons not to do-it-yourself (time, skill, patience, creative cluelessness, etc.) but if you're the type of person who really wants to roll up your sleeves and tackle the design of your wedding with your bare hands, maybe you can get inspiration from these real Disney brides:
Jessica saved thousands of dollars when she used
Swarovski crystals to make this Mickey Mouse wedding
clutch instead of paying for a designer bag. Love!
- You're the only one who really has that perfect, nailed down vision of what you want for your wedding.
- If you know what you want, it might save you time to make it, rather than trying to shop around for that exact thing.
- If you do it, chances are you'll be the only bride in the world to have that exact thing at her wedding, which is just plain cool.

Vendor Spotlight: Living a Fairytale
Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, wedding crafts go badly. I consider myself a fairy crafty person and when we were planning the wedding, I bought each guest a wooden heart ornament during a holiday sale at JoAnn Fabrics. I thought that an ornament with a Disney design on one side and our names on the other would be a lovely favor. So, I sat down with my craft paint and got to work a few weeks before the wedding.
The results were so disastrous, I didn't even blog about them. (This is impressive, considering some of the other awful stuff I've shown you.) In the end, there were no favors at our wedding and I had to bulk sell 47 wooden ornaments on eBay for a third of the price I paid for them. It was not my finest wedding moment.
That's why I love Etsy. Etsy.com is like having an army of crafty people who offer 100% guarantees at your beck and call. I particularly love the wedding shops opened by Disney brides, since you know that they'll understand how important the day is and that only the best will do.
You might remember Pebbles Catto from her Disneyland wedding spotlight. Pebbles is a craft queen and has an Etsy shop called Living a Fairytale, which offers a variety of things for brides and grooms. Take a look:

A Week of DIY Craftiness for Your Disney Wedding
We haven't done theme weeks in a while, but with all of the holiday gift-making and economy penny-saving going on, I thought we could use a time out from pure photography to stir up a little craft inspiration. This week I'll be featuring DIY projects, inspiration boards, crafts from real Disney weddings, and crafty people who can help you out if you don't feel like pulling out the glue and construction paper.
To start us off, I thought I'd share some of the DIY wedding projects floating around Pinterest. If you aren't on Pinterest and don't get the new craze, check out this post. You'll love it. I'm completely addicted...
