Photography: Disney Fine Art Photography and Video
We were planning a road trip to Disney in celebration of Dan finishing a project at work (or so I thought)...
I packed the entire car including both suitcases- the only thing Dan packed was his laptop case (this was not unusual). I had suspected that there was a possibility Dan could ask me to marry him but I didn't really think it would happen, there wasn't any information around the house and he wasn't acting any differently. If he was going to ask on this trip I knew the ring would be in his laptop case. We left early on a Sunday morning and stopped in Washington D.C. to get D.C. cupcakes and lunch, Dan took the laptop case with him out of the car- I was very suspicious. After our fabulous cupcakes and a very long line, we continued the haul all the way to Florida.
We stopped for the night at a hotel 3 hours away from Disney- Dan brought in the laptop case. The next morning we got up early and headed to the Boardwalk . We arrived in the early afternoon and pulled up in front of the hotel. We were too early to check-in but wanted to go the parks so we decided to check the luggage.... All of it - including the laptop case! If you know Dan, you know he would never in a million years check a bag that had a diamond ring in it. At this point I was sure there would be no proposal.
Being the Disney freak I am, I had already planned all of our days there and made dinner reservations. We were supposed to go to Animal Kingdom, however after we checked the luggage Dan told me he had a surprise and we were going to eat at Cinderella's Royal Table in Magic Kingdom. I decided this would be much better than my original plan and again began to suspect Dan may ask me at dinner. One question was still haunting me , Where was the ring? I was thinking of all these different scenarios like Dan shipping the ring to the hotel, leaving it in the car or maybe he didn't have a ring at all and he was just going to ask. Either way I was excited.
We took the bus to Magic Kingdom - this ruled out the possibility of leaving the ring in the car because I knew he would never leave it unattended. We spent the whole day at the park but something was off. Dan was in a rotten mood! He would not go on any rides and was complaining of a headache. Dinner time was approaching and I decided I was going to try to play with Dan and see if I could get some information out of him. I noticed clearly Dan did not have a ring box in his pocket and suspected it could still be at the hotel so I suggested we go back to change for dinner.
Again Dan surprised me by saying it wasn't necessary we could go as we were.
We arrived at the castle and they were taking pictures before the seating, meanwhile another couple came out that had just got engaged and everyone was congratulating them. I again began to suspect something but kept telling myself not to get disappointed if it did not happen. Sure enough we went through the whole dinner and no proposal. I now decided I was imagining things and it wasn't happening.
We went outside to try and secure a location for the light parade. After the parade there was a short gap before the fireworks were set to go off. It was getting so busy we decided to try and find another place to stand we happened to walk by a photo pass location. I was now obsessed with the photo pass and begged Dan to take a picture at the one in front of the castle and rose garden.
I got out my photo pass card and we were waiting in line, meanwhile there was another photographer standing next to the photo pass kid. He approached Dan and I asking if we would like to take promotional shots for Disney, they were trying to highlight couples. You could tell this was a professional photographer- I was so excited, this was our chance to be discovered!
The photographer, Joe, led us into the rose garden... yes inside the fence. Inside there was another photographer, Ali, and cameras and flashes set up. Dan went to speak with Joe and came back letting me know that they were going to send us all of the photos for free! I couldn't believe my ears, not only were we in the rose garden, we were getting free pictures and going to be famous.
Dan and I watched the castle and they started taking pictures. Dan started talking and it all clicked - I had been completely duped, this was all an elaborate plan, I immediately broke down in tears. Dan got on his knee and asked me to marry him...
It turns out Dan's mom sewed a pocket into his boxer shorts to hold the ring. He did in fact have the ring in the laptop case until he checked it with the valet (I had run inside to go the bathroom!!!) Dan walked around the park with it all day explaining why he wouldn't go on all of the rides and come to find out faked a headache. Disney Event Photography played a huge part in the plan as well. Joe, Rick, and Ali were absolutely wonderful.
